2025 Celebrating Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
|
A once-upon-a-time Chinese story has it that a great archer named Hou Yi was rewarded with an elixir of immortality for shooting down 9 of the 10 suns that were scorching the Earth. His wife Chang’e found the hidden elixir while an evil man tried to steal it from her. So, she drank it, saying she was protecting it for Hou Yi. Immediately, Chang’e floated up to the sky and landed on the moon, where she has lived ever since.

The story doesn’t end there. Up on the moon, Chang’e isn’t all alone—her loyal jade rabbit has kept her company through the centuries. Folklore tells that the two spend their quiet moonlit days pounding sweet rice to make mooncakes, sending their blessings down to Earth every Mid-Autumn Festival. Some even say the moon shines so brightly because it’s polished by their endless baking! So when we look up at the full moon this time of year, we’re also thinking of Chang’e and her faithful companion, still busy in their glowing kitchen above.

2025 Lantern Festival & Valentine's Day Sharing
|
The Lantern Festival (Feb 12) marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations on the 15th day of the lunar calendar's first month. It is a time of joy, family reunions, and the lighting of lanterns. Feasting is inseparable from any Chinese celestial celebration, and eating Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) is integral to this event. The Lantern Festival celebrates light and renewal; eating round, bright, pearl-like Tangyuan suggests the wish for a fortunate and fulfilled year ahead.
